There are many things you can do to safeguard your family and your home from fire. Complete the home fire safety checklist to see what your family needs to do to stay safe.
The Kitchen
Do cooks stay in the kitchen while cooking?

Is the stove top clean and uncluttered?

Do you have oven mitts within every reach of the stove?

Do you keep a pan lid in reach while cooking?

Are your electrical appliances in good condition?

Are the electrical outlets properly loaded?

Do you keep pot handles turned inward while cooking?

Do you have a class K fire extinguisher in the kitchen?

Living Areas and Bedrooms
Are space heaters at least 3 feet away from combustible materials?

Do you have a screen on your fire place?

Is your chimney clean?

Are matches and lighters up and out of reach of children?

Have you had your heating appliances serviced this year?

Do you have smoke detectors in every level of your home?

Do you test smoke detectors each month?

Do you change the smoke detector batteries twice each year?

Are your smoke detectors clean?


Workshops, Storage Areas, and Outdoors
Are flammable liquids stored safely?

Do you have a working fire extinguisher?

Are fuses and circuit breakers the right size?

Are outdoor power supplies safe?
