2003 Fire Prevention Teacher of the Year ![]() Pictured is Mrs. Katherine Dailey along with her 4th grade class at Murphy Elementary School. Mrs. Dailey was presented with a plaque designating her as the 2003 Fire Prevention Teacher of the Year. Fire Prevention Educator, Amanda Crisp and Fire Chief Al Lovingood made the presentation at MES on February 5, 2004
Murphy Fire Department Dinner Awards
Pictured is Firefighter Steve Baumgartner receiving the Firefighter of the Year Award from Fire Chief Al Lovingood at Murphy Fire Department's Annual Dinner on January 10, 2004. Firefighter Baumgartner dedicated over 184 hours of service to the department during 2003. The following firefighters also received service award pins for various years of service.

Murphy Fire Department Appoints New Officers On December 8, 2003 the Murphy City Council approved the promotions presented by Fire Chief Al Lovingood. Phil Bowman was promoted from Captain to Assistant Fire Chief. Bobby Barton and Jeff Peterson were promoted to captain. These personnel were promoted based on their abilities, experience and certifications. These individuals are all certified firefighters in North Carolina and also hold several other certifications. Although our department is volunteer, these individuals along with our other officers and firefighters continuously strive to be a positive asset of our community. The Town of murphy is very fortunate to have these trained, dedicated, motivated individuals who desire to occupy these leadership positions in an effort to lead our department in a positive direction.
2003 Christmas Parade Mrs. Dailey's 4th grade class rode on the Murphy Volunteer Fire Department Truck in this year's Christmas Parade. Students were given the chance to ride on the truck after winning the annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest. Students enjoyed riding on the truck and having a great view of the Christmas parade.
2003 Fire Prevention Poster Contest Winners The Murphy Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce the Grand Prize Winner of this year's Fire Prevention Poster Contest. Mrs. Dailey's 4th Grade Class at Murphy Elementary School did an outstanding Job with fire prevention this year! The poster contest required Students to create a family escape plan which labeled where smoke detectors should be located, two escape routes from each room, and a family meeting place. The winning poster met all of the requirements. The class even mentioned some of the key phrases that the fire department teaches during fire prevention month. Some of the phrases used were: "Get Out and Stay Out" "Stay Low and Go" "Call 911" . Mrs. Dailey's class was awarded with a framed certificate and will be able to ride on a fire truck during this year's Christmas parade.
